The 44 consonants of the Thai alphabet have interesting names. There is one letter called 'goad' and I didn't have a clue what the heck a 'goad' might be. Studying Thai is also studying English.
The 'goad' is used to 'goad' the elephants. The 'catch' is a also a symbol in the Makayana Buddhism which stands for attracting those who are still hestitating!

Was bitte schön ist ein Stachelstock??? Im Englischen heisst der Stachelstock 'goad' und das ist der Name für einen der 44 Konsonanten. Stachelstöcke, das hab ich dann erfahren, dienen zum Antreiben von Elefanten. Im Mahayanda Buddhismus symbolisiert er den Haken, mit dem man Zögernde an die Buddhalehre heranziehen kann. Aha, wieder was gelernt!
