Heute ist wieder einmal ein besonderer Tag: Wir gedenken unseres Mitbruders, dem Hl Joseph Freinademetz, der als erster Missionar unserer Gemeinschaft nach China gesandt wurde. Es war nicht leicht fuer ihn in diesem fremden Land "anzukommen". Doch nach den anfaenglichen Schwierigkeiten hat er die Chinesen lieben gelernt und wurde selbst einer von ihnen. Von ihm ist die Aussage ueberliefert, dass er auch im Himmel ein Chines sein wolle. Das kleine Bild gefaellt mir recht gut. Seine Kleidung und sein Aussehen druecken die auesserre und innere Wandlung des Tirolers aus. In seinen Haenden haelt er die Heilige Schrift und er haelt sie so, als wollte er die Heilige Schrift in unsere Haende weitergeben ... TAKE IT!!!

To the person:
Joseph Freinademetz was born in Oies/Abtei in the diocese of Bressanone/Brixen in 1852, and was ordained a priest in 1875. He joined the Society of the Divine Word at Steyl, Netherlands, and was sent as a missionary to China in 1879. There he tirelessly proclaimed the Gospel until his death in Taikia on January 28, 1908.
